Phulwa

A cactus button in muted olive-green lacquer, dotted in butter-cream with blush-pink tips. Carved and painted by hand in the same three-armed form.

The craft behind it: Each button is turned and carved from wood by lacquer artisans of Banaras, a craft carried through families for generations. Colour is layered by hand on the lathe, then detail drawn in with a fine brush — dot by dot, line by line. Every piece is finished individually, sealed in gloss, and left slightly its own. Nothing here is machine-made.
