A floor-length jumpsuit cut in fluid silk, mistaken for a gown ere it moves. The neckline falls in a deep, unpressed cowl, draped on the stand and left to settle as it will. Shoulders sit narrow and capped above a high, clean armhole; the back lies smooth, closed by a hidden zip that runs the full centre line. At the ribcage the satin gives way to a corseted waist in silk brocade — the same blue ground, threaded with a gold vine of lotus and bud — panelled in six and dipped to a soft point at front and back, holding the waist without pressing on it. Below, the cloth is released into a wide-legged trouser, flared generously at the hem.

Its vine is woven into the cloth rather than laid upon it, hence each panel must be read ere it is cut, and shifted by small measures until the pattern runs cleanly across every seam and meets itself again at the back. Several days passed betwixt the first placement and the last. The cowl was draped on the form, never drafted flat — a fold of that kind cannot be planned, only found.
Ceremony has long asked of women that they be beautiful and still in equal measure. Neel declines that. It offers the weight of a floor-length line and the ease of a trouser in one breath. Nothing amiss in wanting both.
