A floor-length dress cut in deep red satin, fitted close through the body and released into a fishtail at the knee. The bodice sits square across the bust — lightly padded, held on fine noodle straps — and is seamed at the waist ere the skirt begins its descent. The line narrows over the hip and hem before the cloth breaks into a flared tail, cut longer at the back so it trails ere it settles. A concealed side zip keeps the seam uninterrupted.

Worn over it, a cropped cap blouse in silk brocade, its silver lotus vine woven into a red ground. The neckline is built from individual brocade petals, each cut and layered by hand to form a lotus at either shoulder, opening across the chest and repeating around the back. Sleeves are short and softly gathered, the back plain and clean.

The petals took the longest. Each was cut singly, faced, shaped and set in place by hand — laid one over the next until the lotus opened as it ought and read the same from either side. Several days passed ere they were all in agreement. Brocade above and satin below was a deliberate pairing: the woven cloth holds its shape at the shoulder, the satin gives way and flows, and betwixt the two the eye is carried down the whole length. Agni was made with the festive months in mind — ethnic at heart, Western in cut, and modest by nature, as is our way. Covered where it ought to be, and no less striking for it.
